The area around Tategamori Kogen is blessed with nature, and the surrounding nature spreads as far as the eye can see. There is no livestock farmer within 5 km, so there is little risk of disease spreading among animals, and it is excellent in terms of epidemic prevention and hygiene. For this reason, pigs raised in Tategamori Kogen are safe and healthy, and produce high-quality pork.

Tategamori Kogen is located in the southern hills of the Kitakami mountain range, on the border of Iwate and Miyagi prefectures. It used to be the territory of the Date clan, and the Kitakami River, which boasts the largest basin area in the Tohoku region, flows at the foot of the mountain. The Sanriku rias coastline facing the Pacific Ocean extends 20km to the east, and in the summer, the winds of the Pacific Ocean reach you. The cold in winter is severe, but even if the amount of snow that accumulates is relatively small, it melts within a few days.

There is a theory that the name "Tategamori" comes from the fact that there was a war hall. There are various theories about the origin of the name "Yellow Sea".

Ark Tategamori Farm is located in Yellow Sea, Fujisawa-cho, Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture. This area was called ``Huanghai Village'' in ancient times, and was the stage for the Battle of Nine Years in the 11th century. There is also a story about the Ezo conquest by Sakanoue Tamuramaro, the first Great General of the Sei.

Around 1985, a national farmland development project of about 400 hectares began in Fujisawa Town. The first field we were entrusted with was the field where the current asparagus farm of the Pig Farming Division is located. Our farm market concept began with the challenge of growing asparagus without pesticides in this 5-hectare field. After adding compost to prepare the soil, I was able to harvest a lot of wonderful asparagus, but the overgrown weeds became unmanageable and I had to give up on the 4th year.

After that, I visited the world's agricultural countries and encountered the British farmers' market. From there, we decided to start a grand "farm market concept" to "turn a large farmland into a market for consumers as it is".

Bringing the land of Tategamori into the future

First of all, we started with making the soil, using our own organic compost to create a field over 4 to 5 years, and started organically growing wheat first. In June 1992, Tategamori Ark Ranch opened.
By creating a place where you can actually see and experience our livestock and agriculture, we were able to provide many customers with the opportunity to visit Tategamori Kogen. And we are still striving to evolve.

With the philosophy that “food is life” in mind, we will continue to take on challenges while facing the land of Tategamori.
