Last year, I transferred from the pig farming team at Hanaizumi Farm, where I had worked for three years, to the poultry farming team in the Agriculture and Livestock Department for one year. My name is Ota Sa.
In an environment completely different to pig farming, the workers are pecked by chickens every day and are grateful to them for the fresh eggs they collect.
On weekends, we were in charge of serving customers as they collected eggs on the farm, interacting with them and conveying the charm of chickens.
I will never forget the look of surprise and excitement on the faces of children as they handled freshly laid eggs for the first time on elementary school and nursery school field trips.
In pig farming, we don't have the opportunity to talk directly with customers, so I had no idea how the products we grow every day were delivered to them or what their reactions were.
It was a wonderful year in which the poultry farming team was able to interact closely with customers through serving customers by collecting eggs, which was a very valuable experience and gave me new insights.
I have now returned to the pig farm, Hanaizumi Farm, but I always think of the faces of my customers and raise my pigs 🐷 with even more love every day!
