I am Teppei Yajima from Sakanoue Farm, Pig Farming Division. In this article, I will be talking about one of the in-house committees I belong to.AI Utilization CommitteeI will introduce my current activities and my own thoughts about this.

🧠What is the AI Utilization Committee?

In recent years, we have been hearing more and more about the term AI (artificial intelligence). While many people are discussing its potential for improving business efficiency and creating new value, many are probably wondering, "How should we actually use AI?"

In order to address these challenges, our company has established an "AI Utilization Committee" this year, which is working to promote understanding of AI within the company and advance efforts aimed at applying it to business operations.

The AI Utilization Committee is currently conducting an "inventory of business operations." This is an initiative to identify various internal business operations and organize the content and characteristics of each, as the first step toward effectively utilizing AI.

Specifically, each department's work is listed and prioritized based on factors such as "which work can be made more efficient with AI" and "which work is repetitive and has room for improvement." Through this process, the goal is to identify work that has a high possibility of introducing AI and use this information to develop future measures.

In the committee, members exchange opinions, review actual work flows, and refer to examples from other companies, resulting in positive discussions.

💬My own thoughts and observations

Participating in the AI Utilization Committee made me realize the reality that there are many situations in the agricultural industry where it is difficult to introduce AI. Work on-site is often affected by the weather and natural environment, and not everything can be easily replaced by AI.

Still, I feel there is certainly room for AI to be used in clerical work and daily routine tasks. For example, if we can gradually improve the efficiency of data organization and document creation, it will reduce the burden on the workplace and create an environment where people can focus more on their core tasks.

"Using AI" itself is not the goal, but rather AI is one option when thinking about "how to make work easier" and "how to create value." It was a big realization for me to be able to adopt this perspective.

Conclusion

The AI Utilization Committee's efforts have just begun. While there are some situations in the agricultural industry where it is difficult to utilize and introduce AI, there are certainly areas where improvements can be made, even if only little by little, such as administrative work and information organization.

As the committee continues its activities, it will continue to listen to the voices of those on the front lines and explore ways to utilize and introduce AI that will actually be useful. It may be a small step, but we hope to continue working steadily to improve work environments and the quality of our work.
